Insulation Foam Panels Make A Garage Conversion Easy

Insulation is one of the most invisible yet powerful concepts that millions use to make their home or business (or any building) more efficient. In an economy like this we have to start thinking more intelligently about saving money rather than trying to figure out how to gain more. You’d be surprised how much money you throw away and don’t realize it! One of the main culprits is the lack of good insulation, lack of sufficient insulation, or lack of awareness that walls and attics are not the only thing you need to insulate on your home to save money on your electric bills.

If you convert your garage into half bedroom half garage, you will need to insulate the two very well. You can do this by using insulation foam panels in lieu of the typical wall frames. The foam insulation panels are fireproof, sound proof and a very good way to keep the heat in and the cold out (or vice versa).

These are typically two wood panels, one on each side with insulation on the inside. It’s a lot like cavity insulation but easier to install. These are generally used for major construction processes more than for residential use because they are installed most often as the wood frames and instead of wood frames but in home projects such as garage conversions, you can utilize this technology to give you a quick way to insulate and create a wall to separate the two halves of the garage.

The sheets that form the outer walls can be made of just about any strong and air tight material such as metal, drywall, and even pressed board/wood of a sufficient thickness. Make sure you use a good air tight sealant to close the enclosure and the best insulation material to put in the middle of the insulation foam panels is either spray in foam, commercial grade foam or fiberglass insulation or both. Some people will insulate the outside of the unit with foam insulation spray on material as well as the inside to double the protection against escaping air.
